CuteWendy

A contemporary webcomic written and drawn by Josh Lesnick, author of Wendy and girly.

CuteWendy was started by Lesnick as a diversion from his serial comic, Wendy. The protagonist of CuteWendy appeared similar to the protagonist of Wendy, both having the same glasses and hairstyle, and had the same name, but the continuities of the comics were totally separate and the Wendy of CuteWendy once outright announced that she was not the same character as the one in Wendy. The entire supporting cast is different (Yumi and Lucy having been replaced by a blonde girl referred to as Sidekick or The Other Girl) and, instead of being hand-drawn, scanned and computer-colored, the entire strip was drawn in black and white on Lesnick's new Wacom graphics tablet, which he was trying to learn to use. The strip is also much less linear, more surreal, and takes even more turns for the truly bizarre than the original did. It also occasionally branches off into adventures involving Lesnick himself (for instance, a totally fictional quest to find and rescue his fiance, who has been captured by a villain as many early video game heroines were wont to be captured).

Ironically, CuteWendy reached a conclusion long before Wendy itself ever did, with Wendy and The Other Girl getting married (Wendy finally "ended" in 2005, but not in nearly so proper a fashion). Furthermore, CuteWendy has become the starting point of Lesnick's new comic, girly, in which one of the two main characters (Winter) is the daughter of Wendy and her sidekick.
